Our Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture (SCS JV) is undertaking major tunnelling and shaft construction in a congested and historic urban environment. We are constructing large diameter tunnels under west London, where part of our challenge is to protect some 7,000 valuable assets, ranging from modern apartment buildings to historic Victorian villas. All of which require surveying, protecting and monitoring.
There are additional complexities in tunnelling beneath operational assets, including London’s extensive transport network, while operating in complex London clay ground conditions. We are working alongside seven London boroughs and hundreds of other third parties to manage and secure all necessary consents for our works.
Care and precision are key.
This includes at our Euston Approaches site, where we are working in close proximity to listed buildings and highly sensitive historic infrastructure, some of which is in very poor structural condition. At the western end of the project, we are tunnelling and building in a highly sensitive environment including a chalk aquifer.
In building one of the most complex new railways, we have tight specifications, the highest design standards and industry-leading assurance processes to ensure requirements are met.
We are committed to leaving a legacy of world class engineering, delivered by high performing teams that have realised benefits for the communities we have worked with.
