Our History

Cementation Skanska’s proud history reaches back over 100 years. Our founder, Albert Francois, was a Belgian engineer working in the Doncaster area. Our first contracts were carried out at Thorne Colliery in 1910.

By the early 1930s, we had expanded into the civil engineering construction sector. Our resources and innovative techniques were called upon to help the Allied Forces during World War II.

During the 1940s and 1950s, we established global links and changed direction, as piling and ground engineering overtook traditional construction work. This was a period of significant innovation in foundation engineering. We became part of Skanska in 2001.

Cementation Skanska has worked on countless landmark projects throughout our history. These include: the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, Crossrail, The lwall Viaduct, Amsterdam Metro and many iconic London skyline towers. We’ve also been involved in networks of vital smaller projects, including the London Underground.

With such a long history, we often find ourselves working on development sites where we encounter piles installed long ago by a previous Cementation Skanska generation. The depth of knowledge this provides places us at the forefront of the drive to re-use piles, wherever possible.
