The Marq

  • The Marq - completed
  • The Marq Interior

Skanska built The Marq redevelopment in the west end of London for its customer The Crown Estate. The contract was worth £32 million to Skanska, which formed part of a wider £100 million scheme.

The Marq, designed by John McAslan and Partners/Rolfe Judd, is a 46,000 sq ft building in the heart of St James’s offering six floors of modern office space and two flagship retail and restaurant spaces on the ground floor. It is the first completely new build office building to be delivered in the St James’s neighbourhood since St James’s Market in 2017.

In April 2019, when The Marq was handed over to the customer, it became the first new-build project in the UK to achieve both a BREEAM New Construction Outstanding rating for its shell and core, and the WELL Gold Certification. The double-certification recognises that the building has been designed to enhance people’s health, wellbeing and productivity, as well as delivering the highest environmental performance.

The development features three pieces of bespoke artwork by Jacqueline Poncelet, with two external elements – splay corner and gates – being complemented by an interior wall-based artwork.
