Bus shelter maintenance contract expanded to entire London network

Press release 07/08/2015 08:00 CET

Transport for London has awarded a contract, with a potential value of £4 million, to Skanska for the electrical maintenance of all bus shelters across its network.

Bus shelter maintenance contact expanded to entire London network

Since 2012, Skanska has been working with the client on 7,000 bus shelters, roughly two thirds of the network.

The new expanded contract will take in the remaining 5,000 structures to cover almost 12,000 shelters across Greater London, servicing two-and-a-half billion journeys annually.

Operations Director James Holmes, who describes the contract win as a natural progression borne out of long-term successes, said: “In recent years we’ve significantly increased our portfolio of highways electrical projects, with upgrades to more modern, greener, street lighting taking place in several boroughs. Our team are looking forward to bringing their skills to this expanded role.”

Operations will include planned and reactive maintenance such as electrical testing, light replacements and general repairs.

The contract will run for at least five years, with the option for a three-year extension. The full eight-year contract would be worth £4 million.
