Skanska is taking part in a UK tour that celebrates the achievements of members of the Armed Forces who have been recognised in the Soldiering on Awards 2015.
In preparation for the Soldering on Awards 2015, Skanska has been going on tour with a special exhibition to acknowledge the winners.
The ‘Eight Voices One Story’ multi-media exhibition consists of eight short films showing ordinary people who were faced with extraordinary circumstances, hardships and challenges.
Each film shows how members of the Armed Forces have dealt with, and overcome, their injuries – including loss of mobility or multiple limbs. The films illustrate too the impact these devastating injuries have had on the lives of their loved ones.
The exhibition acknowledges the courageous journeys of some of the award winners and raises public awareness of the Armed Forces charities who nominated them.
Over recent months the exhibition has been touring a number of Ministry of Defence bases across the country and, as one of the main sponsors, Skanska has attended the events. That includes a visit to MoD Corsham on 13 January where Business Manager John Wellstead, Principal Asset Manager Area 2 Steve Jones and Dave Roberts Workshop Manager all from Infrastructure Services joined Skanska Resourcing Manager Louise Coulbeck to represent Skanska at the event.
David Roberts said: “I found the day very worthwhile, it is a great concept and the impact it makes is remarkable.”
Louise Coulbeck said: “People leaving the military have skills that can be easily applied to the construction industry and share similar values. Events like this allow us to convey what it’s like to work at Skanska and the types of roles available.”
The Soldiering on Awards are presented and celebrated at an annual gala awards dinner in central London on 18 April. Nominations for the awards were received from all of the individual UK Armed Forces charities. In addition, a ‘People’s Choice’ Award is made via a poll conducted by the Sunday Mirror. Winners were selected by the board of the Trust.
