Our work on a Bristol primary school has been recognised by an influential local body.
Skanska’s new annexe at Colston’s Primary School in Bristol won a Gold Star Award from the Redland and Cotham Amenities Society (RCAS).
The accolade recognised the project’s high quality design and build and was jointly awarded to architects Childs & Sulzmann.
The school’s new building opened in September 2015 now provides places for 210 reception-age children. It is located in a secluded woodland setting and includes extensive outdoor play areas, a nature pond and nesting boxes for bats and birds.
Skanska’s Bristol school preconstruction director Mike Carter received the award in a recent ceremony. He said, “RCAS is an active and passionate community group whose aim is to conserve and enhance the character of Redland and Cotham so it was particularly welcome to have our work at Colston’s recognised.”
Colston’s Primary is one of 29 primary school projects Skanska has undertaken through its Local Education Partnership (LEP) with Bristol City Council (BCC) since 2006.
In that time, the LEP has delivered over 8,000 new primary places as well as improved the learning environment for over 14,000 children in a further 16 secondary school projects. The partnership was recently extended for five years to 2021.
