Driving productivity through improved access to information

Press release 07/01/2025 07:00 CET

In-house bespoke data visualisation platform makes accessing project information quick and simple.

Tapping into our in-house skills and capabilities Skanska has developed a bespoke data visualisation platform that makes accessing project information quick and simple.

The platform provides a holistic visual of a project’s engineering design in real-world context, in an easy to consume format for all. The user-friendly interface is supported by dashboards that showcase real time data. Users have the ability to analyse and consume the data in different formats according to the task at hand. View the demo video here.

The innovation enhances and supports collaboration, unleashing the potential for improved efficiency and productivity in delivery.

Our project teams, supply chain, and customers can access live project information at any time from any mobile or desktop device safely and securely, and with no license needed. Complex engineering, design, cost, programme and risk data is easy to view and interrogate in just a few clicks, contributing to ‘right first time’ decision making.

Susan Ryall, Skanska’s Engineering & Design Director commented: “This platform gives the ability to integrate multiple data sets, into an easy-to-use platform which brings information to life in a visual and accessible manner. It allows projects, customers and supply chain to have the right information at the right time enabling real time data driven decision making.”

Our customer National Highways added: “This software has brought the A46 Newark Bypass scheme to life, by encompassing it with 3D visualisation. Since being given access we’ve used it in team meetings across various disciplines.

“The platform has demonstrated its effectiveness by enabling better engagement from attendees. They have then been able to proactively identify areas of interest due to the user-friendly interface and intuitive navigational functions.

“As the scheme progresses and more detail is added into BIM, we as a project team look forward to using this tool on a frequent basis.”

As demonstrated in the video, the data visualisation platform is used to view the project’s design along with all the separate discipline models such as drainage, highways and landscaping. There is no latency with the information, and when the design model is updated it automatically syncs with the data visualisation platform, ensuring project teams are always able to view the latest information. Previously manual processes are now automated. It can integrate with other systems such as GIS, databases, PowerBI, Autodesk and Bentley Systems.

The platform is completely bespoke and is driven by customer and supply chain requirements. This better enables open collaboration.

Currently we are using the data visualisation platform on our Infrastructure schemes and are aiming to roll it out across all our sectors and projects. The platform is a key part of our connected digital ecosystem that we have developed to enhance information accessibility and project delivery.

Natalie Davey, Engineering Manager, Skanska UK said: “Using the platform is much quicker and easier than loading large model files the traditional way. There is also no risk of accidentally making changes to the original data either. It provides a quick overview of all the information that you don't quite get from either geospatial data, a model, or drawings alone. Information such as the topography, and the existing structures are in layers that can be easily toggled. It has a lot of current and future untapped potential, and I look forward to further updates to the functionality.”
