Skanska supports national campaign dedicated to promoting the industry to women.

National Women in Engineering day

The Women in Engineering Society (WES) is holding the National Women in Engineering Day on 23 June 2014 to mark its 95th anniversary. The day is intended to raise the profile and celebrate the achievements of women in engineering.

Today, more than 2 million people are employed in the UK’s construction industry, but women make up only 11 per cent of that workforce. And within that number under 2 per cent are based on sites.

It has been recognised that a skills gap in the industry is looming, and one way of addressing this is to get more women to consider a career in construction as a realistic option for them. This will help create more diversity in the sector and a bigger pool of future talent from which to recruit.

At Skanska, we have fantastic opportunities for women. We believe they bring a fresh approach and a balanced dynamic to our workplaces and we are actively looking to recruit women with potential.

In support of the campaign, Skanska features in a supplement dedicated to ‘women in engineering’ in today’s Independent newspaper. We also have a presence on the website www.womenengineers.co.uk, as well as working with future talent via notgoingtouni.com.
