Skanska named The UK’s Best Green Company by the Sunday Times

Press release 12/06/2011 12:00 CET

Today’s edition of the Sunday Times launches the 2011 results of its Best Green Companies Awards and sees Skanska named as the greenest company in the UK.

The Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards were launched four years ago and since this time, Skanska has been placed in the top five every year rising to the number one spot for 2011 – a clear demonstration of our consistent approach to green leadership and performance.

Our green strategy is based on the themes of green leadership, employee engagement and sound environmental performance at project level. The strategy is underpinned by an external focus on engagement with our supply chain and our clients in a true collaborative way of working.

We believe winning this award will create further opportunities for us to work with like-minded partners and new customers.

Jennifer Clark, Director of Environment, Skanska UK said: “This is a fantastic achievement and is reflection of the continued hard work and commitment of everyone who works for Skanska to make us the greenest company in the UK. A large percentage of the judging criteria is based on the responses and feedback given by our staff, which is very important to us. We are all immensely proud and believe this will open new doors for us to win more ‘Green Business’ and work with clients who share our vision and green ethos.”

Alastair McCall, editor of The Sunday Times Green List, said: “Skanska’s achievement in being named our Best Green Company cannot be overstated. It is the first time a large company with a high environmental impact has won the contest. Skanska has consistently demonstrated sector-leading commitment to reducing its environmental impacts and it is synonymous today with being in the vanguard of efforts being made to transform what was once one of our “dirty” industries.

“The company’s efforts to embed this green culture within the business are remarkable. Skanska has never finished out of our top five and it is one of only 15 companies to be included in all four of the Green Lists we have published. It is an achievement of which the business should be very proud.”
