Commenting, Keith Clarke, chief executive said "Our strategy of choosing the work we win is working, we have had an excellent start to the year".

The new contracts include a £26m contract in London’s West End; an £11.5m scheme at Northumbria University; and £12.5m of contracts at three key UK military bases.

In London’s West End, Kvaerner Trollope & Colls has been awarded a combined office, residential and retail scheme at Great Marlborough Street. The scheme, described by the client, Hufvudstaden International (GMS), as London’s biggest speculative development currently under construction, is due for completion in mid-1999.

It comprises two adjoining buildings totalling some 15,000 square metres of office accommodation as well as three ground-floor retail units and six apartments/maisonettes. Designed by Hamilton Associates, the two main buildings will each have their own entrance and individual style, using Portland stone, granite and brick feature detailing.

On Teesside, The University of Northumbria, has awarded Kvaerner Construction an £11.5 million contract to build a major new teaching and resource centre following a competitive bidding process which attracted 29 initial expressions of interest.

The three-storey development at Coach Lane Campus, will include a learning resource centre, staff accommodation and teaching and seminar rooms for the Health Social Work and Education Faculty. Work also involves sports facilities including indoor courts, fitness suite, rugby and football pitches as well as an all-weather floodlit pitch.

To complete the hattrick the company has also picked up contracts totalling £12.5 million at three key military bases in the UK. The largest of these awards is a £5.5 million design and construct project for a new enlisted club at the RAF Mildenhall airbase.

Others include a £4.9 million combined catering facility equipped to serve more than 1,000 military and civilian staff at HMS Warrior, Northwood, and a £2 million contract to design, supply, install, test and commission back-up power supplies for an RAF communications base.
