Kvaerner Construction’s Indian company has secured a major repeat jetty contract, just weeks after gaining an internationally-recognised quality standard for its work.
Kvaerner Cementation India has won a £6.5 million contract to build a jetty at a port terminal near Mumbai. It completed a similar job at the same site for P&O last year.
The latest project includes constructing a berth 40.5 metres wide and 300 metres long as well as reclaiming a 680-metre long and 14-metre wide section of land along the existing shoreline for the installation of liquid cargo pipelines.
The jetty and its associated approach bridge will be constructed with reinforced concrete decks on piled foundations. It will be capable of handling tankers of 85,000 Dead Weight Tonnage and has been built so that it can accommodate both bulk and container cargo. Working for the Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Kvaerner Cementation India is due to complete the jetty in mid 2001.
The company has also just become the first in India to receive the internationally–recognised quality standard ISO 9002 for port and harbour structures, underlining its position as a market leader in marine projects in India.
