Kvaerner Construction’s Hong Kong-based company, Gammon Construction, has secured two project management contracts in Shanghai with Lucent Technologies.
The largest is for a new manufacturing facility where Lucent Technologies of Shanghai is investing US$17 million in developing products to meet the demands of China’s communications industries.
The development includes a 15,000 square metres single storey steel framed manufacturing area, a two-storey 10,500-square metre office and cafeteria and a 7,300 square metres single storey warehouse.
Gammon is also working for Lucent Technologies Shanghai Fibre Optics on a US$15M contract for the extension of a fibre optics plant. The four-storey extension of 10,500 square metres will house three draw towers for fibre optic cable production, M&E plant rooms, conference rooms, laboratories as well as a fitness centre, a warehouse and a cafeteria. The project also includes the renovation of 7,700 square metres of the existing facility.
The projects are in the Caohejing Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai, China. Work on both contracts has started with ground breaking on the manufacturing facility taking place by the end of June and both projects being completed by the end of 2001.
