Kvaerner wins Hong Kong Double

Kvaerner Construction’s Hong Kong-based company, Gammon Construction, has been awarded two contracts with a combined value of £32.5 million.

It has secured a £26.6 million (HK$334.4m) contract to build two residential towers of 33 storeys and 26 storeys above a two-level podium and two levels of basement car park which it has already constructed.

The towers, in the island’s Wong Tai Sin region, are part of the Hong Kong Housing Society’s redevelopment of the Kai Tak Estate. Gammon has just started working on the contract which is due to be completed in summer 2001.

Gammon has also secured a contract worth £5.9 million (HK$75m) to carry out two years of site investigation work at 60 slope sites and slope protection work at 30 sites in Hong Kong Island South, Kowloon and the New Territories. Working for the Hong Kong government’s Geotechnical Engineering Office, the company is due to complete the contract early in 2002.
