Skanska’s Bentley Works to benefit from latest Regional Growth Fund release

Press release 22/10/2012 14:30 CET

Skanska is pleased to announce that its application for funding from Round 3 of the government’s Regional Growth Fund has been successful.

The grant is subject to the due diligence process over the next three to six months, but is expected to provide up to £1.28 million of funds to support the planned modernisation of Skanska’s works in Bentley, Doncaster. The grant will be combined with private-sector funds to finance the project.
The site is set to be a hub for the business in the north of England, providing an efficient manufacturing facility and supporting profitable growth in the area for Skanska companies across the business. The development will include a new office building to accommodate up to 240 employees, providing scope for growth in the region.
As a ‘Deep Green’ project, the finished site will also showcase Skanska’s approach to sustainability and green construction capability.
The work is due to be completed in 2015.
The site is already home to the most extensive range of piling plant in the UK, including fabrication, machine, paint, fitting and electrical shops, plus maintenance for Skanska’s specialist fleet of piling rigs and handling cranes, all of which will be enhanced.
The total number of employees on site currently is 170; new work opportunities resulting from the site’s development are expected to create a further 58 direct posts. The 121 supplier jobs that the site currently supports should be secured by the project. The construction phase is expected to generate over 70 jobs.

Notes to editors:
The Bentley site has been the home of Cementation Skanska since the 1920s, providing plant and manufacturing capability to Skanska in the UK, as well as being the regional base for other parts of the business.
Skanska’s ‘Journey to Deep Green’ aims to maximise the number of projects with a near-zero impact on the environment, through the construction process and in operation, thereby future proofing these projects.
