KVAERNER/BROWN&ROOT JV WINS WASTEWATER CONTRACT

Press release 04/11/1998 00:00 CET

A £40 million contract to build a new sewage treatment and sludge handling plant on the Isle of Wight has been secured through negotiation by a Kvaerner Construction led joint venture with Brown & Root.

The Southern Water plant at Sandown will consist of treatment, sludge handling and storage facilities and will be built to meet EU Urban Waste Water Directive standards which come into force in December 2000 when construction of the plant is due to be finished. While construction work is taking place, the joint venture will ensure that an adjacent treatment works continues to operate. Once complete the new plant will handle almost all of the sewage on the Isle of Wight.

The contract was secured following a period of partnering with Southern Water and includes process design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. Kvaerner Construction, which has a 60 per cent share in the joint venture, will provide the construction expertise and Brown & Root, with a 40 per cent share, will provide the majority of the engineering design.
