Kvaerner Cementation Foundations is carrying out Northern Ireland’s first application of hard-hard secant piling for a new commercial development opposite the Grand Opera House in Belfast city centre.
The new technique uses concrete mix in the female piles to ensure long-term durability. Structural CFA piles, consisting of reinforced concrete, overlap unreinforced concrete piles to form a proven long-lasting impenetrable barrier.
Under this £128,000 contract, the hard-hard method was used to form the perimeter of a basement involving approximately 100 interlocking 600-mm diameter piles up to 20 metres deep.
