National supply chain awards event – top award across all industries goes to Skanska for founding the Supply Chain Sustainability School
Skanska picked up two accolades at the 2013 Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Management Awards on 11 September, in recognition of its work founding the Supply Chain Sustainability School.
Skanska UK, on behalf of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, won the award for best contribution to corporate responsibility and was named overall winner across all industries. The Supply Chain Sustainability School celebrated its first birthday this year, with members from more than 1,500 supply chain providers committed to improving their sustainability credentials by being part of the school.
Skanska’s Technical Services Director, Andy MacAskill, said: “The Supply Chain Sustainability School is a truly fantastic example of cross-industry collaboration and is improving the way UK construction delivers sustainable solutions. The industry’s supply chain is its lifeblood. The school has just one ambition – to support that supply chain to deliver more sustainable construction and a more sustainable future.”
The Supply Chain Sustainability School is a virtual learning environment that helps construction suppliers and subcontractors develop their sustainability knowledge and competence.
The school was founded by Skanska with support from Kier, Lend Lease, Morgan Sindall, Sir Robert McAlpine, Willmott Dixon and Aggregate Industries. It is being delivered by an independent third party, Action Sustainability. Its newest partners are Balfour Beatty, Wates and Carillion.
The school provides suppliers with practical and free support. A new self-help assessment tool allows companies to understand their current sustainability strengths, while identifying areas in need of development. A prioritised action plan, wide range of tools and e-learning training facilities are all provided free of charge.
