Skanska Innisfree reaches financial close on another key PFI project in the UK - the Central Nottinghamshire hospitals scheme

Skanska Innisfree, the private sector developer consortium for major social infrastructure, has today achieved financial close on another key hospital development under the Government’s Private Finance Initiative.

This latest scheme will transform health care provision for users of three hospitals in Central Nottinghamshire.

The 32 year contract includes a £300 million redevelopment programme as well as the provision and operation of facilities and key support services.

Skanska Infrastructure Development and its investment partner Innisfree will lead the development’s Special Purpose Vehicle drawing on partnerships with Skanska UK for construction and hard FM, Health Care Projects for management services, Medirest for Soft FM Services. The architect for the scheme is Swanke Hayden Connell.

Under the terms of the contract, 60 per cent of all new ward accommodation will be delivered by 2009 with the total project complete by first quarter of 2011. The development, covers a total area of 140,000 square metres and will provide 840 beds allowing the delivery of integrated support services that will enhance efficiency and deliver significant cost benefits to the Trusts. Throughout the redevelopment period, the existing healthcare facilities will remain fully operational.

The project, commissioned by Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust and Mansfield District Primary Care Trust, covers three facilities, King’s Mill Acute Hospital, Mansfield Community Hospital and Newark General Hospital.

At King’s Mill Hospital, work includes the extensive redevelopment of the existing facility to create a single unified hospital with 28 new wards, a new state-of-the-art Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, a new Emergency Care Assessment Centre with an out of hours GP service and a dedicated Women & Children’s Centre.

Located close to the town centre, Mansfield Community Hospital will undergo a modernisation programme, including a main entrance and resource facility, new and refurbished wards, rehabilitation facilities and assisted daily living accommodation along with a new site entrance for improved access.

Maintenance and FM services will be carried out at Newark General Hospital.
