London - built with the help of Skanska

Press release 31/05/2006 00:00 CET

Skanska has a long and diverse history of building landmarks in London, but now it can unveil its most unusual project to date.
The brand new Miniland London attraction at LEGOLAND® Windsor opened to the public this month and has been built with the help of Skanska.

Spread over a third of an acre, Miniland London includes London’s best known landmarks – the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf and Skanska’s latest London landmark, 30 St Mary Axe.
Whilst Skanska is best known for its major landmark projects, the company actually designs and constructs many more smaller and intricate projects every day and it’s the combination of skills that allows Skanska to perform these projects that sets us apart from the competition.
We are not only different from our competitors in the range of projects we undertake but also in the way we approach construction – thinking about our clients’ real needs before we think about logistics, concrete and steel. Big or small, our job is to help our clients deliver their goals.
“We believe that working with Skanska should be both fun and a little bit different,” said David Fison, Chief Executive, Skanska UK. “And not only is this project with LEGOLAND enormous fun, it’s also a bit different – not exactly what you’d expect”.
Expert model makers from the UK, Denmark and the Czech Republic have all been working together, sharing knowledge, building models in model shops around the globe delivering them to the UK ready for installation at a new site in Windsor. Quite a showcase for prefabrication. In total, a staggering 24,000 hours and around 13 million LEGO bricks have been used to create LEGOLAND Windsor’s latest attraction Miniland London – built with the help of Skanska.
“Today’s LEGO model builders are tomorrow’s designers, architects and engineers!” said David Fison.
