Fast track to success for Skanska’s fit-out business

Press release 09/03/2001 00:00 CET

A fast-track construction programme lasting just seven months has helped Skanska Construction’s specialist fit out business win a £5.35 million contract in central London.

Kontor will extend and link two adjoining buildings in Whitfield Street in a substantial refurbishment project that covers more than 4,600 square metres of gross floor area.

The scheme for London Merchant Securities Plc involves constructing a rooftop pavilion and terrace, new toilets, partitions, finishes and exposed M& E services including high specification IT throughout. Two new lifts and seven storeys of emergency stairs will also be built. Work starts on site in mid March and is due to be completed by the end of October.

The latest contract comes at the end of the company’s first six months of trading in which it has won jobs all over the capital. Its largest is the £8 million fit out of seven storeys of banking and dealing rooms at Minerva House in London Bridge for ANZ Bank and Equitable Life. This has been followed by a repeat contract for ANZ Bank to fit-out its riverside apartments on the same site.
