WORK STARTS ON HONG KONG TOWERS

Press release 01/12/1999 00:00 CET

A ground breaking ceremony this week marked the start of construction work for Gammon Construction on a £25 million (HK$314.4m) contract to build schools and a residential tower at Tseung Kwan O in Hong Kong.

Working with the Hong Kong Housing Authority in a partnering contract, Kvaerner Construction’s associate company is building a 21-storey residential block, an eight-storey secondary school and an eight-storey primary school. The buildings are due to be completed by March 2001.

This is Gammon Construction’s third housing project in the Tseung Kwan O area and follows a contract at the Po Lam Estate in 1986 and the £42.5 million Po Lam Road development for two 41-storey residential towers, signed in October last year. Gammon Construction is currently working on six residential contracts with the Hong Kong Housing Authority with a combined value of more than £230 million.
