Cementation Foundations Skanska awarded five-year framework deal from Tube Lines

Press release 06/06/2003 00:00 CET

Foundations and ground engineering specialist Cementation Foundations Skanska has been awarded a five-year framework deal by Tube Lines worth £10m to upgrade cuttings and embankments on the Piccadilly, Northern and Jubilee underground lines.

It is one of the first framework agreements to be awarded by Tube Lines since it was given responsibility earlier this year for the maintenance and upgrade of infrastructure on the three underground lines.

The award follows recent successful projects on the Piccadilly line at Hounslow Central and Boston Manor where Cementation Foundations Skanska provided a full turnkey design and build service to upgrade over one kilometre of embankment.

The company has a ten year track-record in driving down costs and timescales for improving railway cuttings and embankments through innovations such as its patented CemRailBeam technique.

A major focus for the long-term agreement with Tube Lines will be to continue developing new ways to improve performance and this is already happening with a new design method being used on the agreement’s first seven projects, which are starting immediately.

The agreement has an option to be extended another two and a half years and performance will be constantly monitored by KPIs.

This latest framework follows a successful year so far for Skanska in its long-term relationships with clients. It has already had a three-year partnership with public-sector build system CLASP extended a further two years, while a four-year framework partnership with Anglian Water has recently resulted in new projects worth £10m. In Scotland, Skanska’s early completion of its latest houseblock for the Scottish Prison Service meant it became operational eight weeks early.
